Welcome Party

The Night Before

Wedding Day

Leros is a simple, charming island that reflects a more traditional side of Greece. This small, quiet island in the Dodecanese has been part of Theo's family's story for generations. He has spent nearly every summer here since he was a little boy, and in 2022 he introduced Paulina to the island for the very first time. After this, Paulina didn't need much convincing when Theo suggested getting married in Leros. We'll be married in the same church where Theo's paternal grandparents were married and where many of his family members were baptized including his grandmother, making this location especially meaningful. We are so grateful you're making the journey to celebrate with us and are very excited to share a summer on this special island with all of you!

SEE YOU IN GREECE!

traveling to leros

There are several ways to get to Leros depending on your travel plans. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Theo at (251) 490-0144 or Despina (Theo's mom) at (251) 454-5657. They are happy to help!Below are the routes we recommend, listed in order of ease and convenience:Option 1 (Highly Recommended)-- Fly from Athens (ATH) to Leros Airport (LRS). Flight time is approximately 1 hour. Flights are operated by Olympic Air, also called Aegean Air.This is the easiest and most direct way to reach Leros. There are typically 2 flights from Athens each day, and they can sell out quickly, so we recommend booking this portion of your trip as early as possible. Please be advised, because the Leros airport has a short runway, flights operate on smaller propeller planes. We recommend downloading the AEGEAN app before your trip. You can use the app to manage your reservation, check in for your flight, and access your boarding pass. Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure, so be sure to check in during the appropriate window before your flight.Option 2-- Fly from Athens (or many other major European cities such as London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Rome, etc.) into Kos Airport (KGS).-- Take a taxi from Kos Airport to the Port of Kos. The drive time is approximately 30 minutes.-- Take a ferry from Kos to Leros. Ferry ride time is approximately 50 minutes to 2.5 hours, depending on the ferry and the route. Ferries are operated by Dodekanisos Seaways (fastest) and Blue Star Ferries. This is a great option for guests who are planning to visit other parts of Europe as Kos has significantly more flight options, with direct service from a number of European cities during the summer. This is also an alternative for guests who would prefer to fly into a larger airport and avoid the smaller propeller planes. Ferryscanner is an app that will be a helpful resource for planning this portion of your trip. You can use it to view available ferries, compare departure times and prices, and book your tickets.Option 3 (Not Recommended)-- Ferry from Athens to Leros. Ferry departs from the Port of Piraeus in Athens. Travel time is approximately 10 hours due to multiple stops. Ferries are operated by Blue Star Ferries. Please pay close attention when booking, as not every sailing stops in Leros. Be sure that Leros is specifically listed as a stop on your selected route. While this route is possible and overnight cabins with beds are available, we strongly recommend choosing this option only if the routes above are not available to you. It is a long journey with multiple stops, and we'd much rather you save that vacation time for exploring Greece than spend an entire day on the ferry!

TRANSPORTATION

EVENT TRANSPORTATION

Transportation will be available to and from all wedding events. For guests who wish to leave earlier, taxis will be available. Please see the "Schedule" tab for transportation details pertaining to each event.

TAXI SERVICES

RENTAL CARS

Renting a car or moped is a great way to explore the island at your own pace and reach some of the more secluded spots. However, driving in Leros can be challenging as it is different from what we're accustomed to in the United States. Leros' roads were originally made to be traveled by donkey. They are old, narrow, and winding without traffic lights, so please use caution. There are several rental agencies located in central areas around the island. Some of the hotels, specifically Crithoni Paradise and Alidian Bay, offer rental services as well. We'll be adding a list of recommended agencies and estimated pricing as it becomes available. Please note that automatic cars are more limited and typically come with an additional premium (usually €10 per day).

Schedule

PLACES TO SEE

BeachesMany of Leros' beaches have sunbeds and umbrellas available through the nearby beach bars and restaurants. In many cases, they are available to customers with the purchase of food or drinks rather than for a separate rental fee.-- Alinda -- Alinda offers a long stretch of shoreline with restaurants, cafés, and hotels just across the street. It's one of the island's most convenient beaches.-- Dio Liskaria -- Just a short walk from Alinda, this beach has calm waters, sunbeds, and a beach bar/restaurant, making it an easy place to spend an afternoon. This is also where we'll be hosting our Recovery Beach Day following the wedding!-- Blefouti -- Located on the more secluded northeastern side of the island, Blefouti is a quieter beach with Artemis Taverna just steps away, where we'll be celebrating our wedding reception!-- Agia Kioura -- One of the few sandy beaches on Leros, Agia Kioura is tucked away in a quieter part of the island.-- Lime Beach Bar -- Although it's a bit farther from the main areas of the island, Lime is well worth the trip. While there isn't a traditional beach, it's a lively waterfront spot with places to jump into the water. Sunbeds, food, and drinks are available.Boat Day-- Day Boat Trip with Agios Georgios Daily Cruises -- Visit several of the region's most beautiful swimming spots, including the uninhabited White Islands, Makronisi, Tiganakia, and Archangelos, as well as Platis Gialos and the island of Lipsi, where you'll have time to explore before returning to Leros. The schedule is available in Agia Marina, and boats depart daily at 10:00 AM from Agia Marina.-- Private Boat -- For those looking for a more private experience, several local companies also offer private boats with a captain that accommodate approximately 6-8 guests. While these charters are more expensive than the daily cruise, they offer a flexible itinerary and the opportunity to explore the islands and swimming spots at your own pace.Kastro (Castle)Perched high above Panteli Bay, the Castle of Leros offers panoramic views of the island and the Aegean Sea. Built on the foundations of an ancient acropolis, the fortress was established during the Byzantine era and later strengthened by the Knights of Saint John. Within the castle walls is the Church of Panagia (Virgin Mary), where the icon of the Virgin Mary is kept after miraculously arriving on Leros centuries ago.Agios IsidorosAgios Isidoros (Saint Isidore) is one of Leros' most recognizable churches. The small white chapel sits on its own rocky islet, connected to the mainland by a narrow pathway, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding coastline.Museums-- War Museum in Lakki -- Walk through history in this unique underground museum, housed within a network of Italian-built WWII tunnels.-- Deposito Di Guerra (War Material Museum) -- Located in Vromolithos, this small museum showcases artifacts recovered from Leros' wartime bunkers and underground depots, highlighting the island's role in WWII, particularly the 1943 Battle of Leros. Visits are by appointment only. Please visit their website for more information.Day Trip to PatmosJust a short ferry ride from Leros, Patmos is a great neighboring island to visit. It is known for the Monastery of St. John and the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse, where St. John received the visions recorded in the Book of Revelation. In addition to its rich history, the island also has beautiful beaches and plenty of cafés/restaurants/shopping.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Toilet paper goes in the waste bin, not the toilet. This is common throughout Greece especially on the islands due to older plumbing and smaller pipes. Trust us on this one.
